Macedonian wines are still in the shadow of Italian, French and even German drinks. However, just one sip and you enter a world of incredible flavors and aromas. Producers usually use such grape varieties as Vranac, Kadarka, Smederevka, Plavac, as well as the well-known Pinot Noir, Syrah, Merlot, Muscat and others. They make drinks with a refined and noble bouquet, which has notes of ripe dark fruits, peaches, honey, raisins and liquorice. Young wines from Macedonia are very fresh, with a tangy acidity, and aged wines are deeper and richer.
Wine from Macedonia is a quality drink, for the production of which winemakers use classic and autochthonous varieties. The range includes simple and light, complex and refined varietals aged in oak barrels. White wines prevail, though red drinks are not less diverse; one should pay attention to them, too. Wine making has been practiced in Macedonia for more than a thousand years. During this time seven large regions have been formed where ruby-colored wines with well-balanced taste, refreshing whites with fruity acidity and red dry drinks of premium quality with abundant tannins are produced. The products combine a low price and decent quality.
